12-Yard Dumpster Rental in Richmond, IN

The 12-yard is the lower of the two dumpsters, with 43-inch walls on a 12 by 6 foot footprint. It's the one to take for heavy material, and the easier one to load by hand.

What Fits in a 12-Yard Dumpster

A 12-yard holds five to six pickup loads. It covers a garage cleanout, a bathroom taken to the studs, a deck tear-off, or a serious weekend on an overgrown property. It's also the dumpster for anything heavy.

12 × 6 ft · 43-inch walls · flat rate on normal debris · painted max fill line on every dumpster

12-Yard Dumpster Dimensions and Driveway Fit

Twelve feet long, six feet wide, 43-inch sides. Both dumpsters share that footprint, so if the 16 fits your driveway the 12 does too. The low sides are why a lot of people take this one: loading shingles over a waist-high wall all afternoon beats lifting them over a five-foot one.

Why Heavy Material Only Goes in the 12

Concrete, dirt, shingles and plaster and lath are all accepted, and all four go in the 12-yard. Jeff doesn't put them in the 16 at all. The reason is weight rather than volume: dense material reaches the safe load of the trailer long before it reaches the top of a taller wall, so a bigger dumpster doesn't buy you anything except a load that can't legally leave your driveway.

Those four materials are billed differently as well. A flat rate covers a normal load with no tonnage math on the invoice, but heavy material carries 1,000 pounds included and $50 a ton after that, weighed on the ticket. It's worth saying plainly because it's the one place a dumpster rental surprises people.

Plaster and lath catches out more Richmond homeowners than anything else on that list. Plenty of houses around Wayne County are old enough to have it behind the drywall, and it's effectively concrete by weight. If you're opening up walls in an older house, say so when you call and the quote will be right the first time.

Where the 12-yard dumpster wins

  • Walls only 43 inches high, so you're lifting over waist height all day
  • The only dumpster that takes concrete, dirt, shingles or plaster and lath
  • Same 12-foot footprint as the 16, so it fits anywhere the bigger one does

Where it doesn't

  • A full-house cleanout will outgrow it, and a second haul beats overfilling
  • Bulky furniture eats the space long before anything else becomes the limit

12-Yard Dumpster Questions, Answered

Can I put concrete in a 12-yard dumpster?

Yes. Concrete, dirt, shingles and plaster and lath all go in the 12-yard. They are billed with 1,000 pounds included and $50 a ton after that, weighed on the scale ticket. They can't go in the 16-yard at all.

How high are the walls?

Forty-three inches, a little under waist height on most people. That's roughly a foot and a half lower than the 16-yard, which is the main reason to take this one for a heavy or hand-loaded job.

Will it fit on my driveway?

It's 12 feet long and 6 feet wide, the same footprint as the 16-yard. That sits on most driveways with room left. If your drive is tight or steep, say so on the phone and Jeff will let you know whether it'll go.

Is there a weight limit on a normal load?

No tonnage math on ordinary household and remodel debris. It's a flat rate. The weight rule only applies to concrete, dirt, shingles and plaster and lath.

How many pickup truck loads fit in a 12-yard?

Roughly five to six. That covers a garage cleanout, a bathroom to the studs, or a serious weekend of yard work with room to spare.

What if my project runs long?

Call before your booked days run out and Jeff will work the extension out with you. He's given people extra time when weather got in the way, and it starts with a phone call.
